Swedes add 50 players

LINDSBORG -- Bethany head football coach Jamie Cruce has announced the 2008 Swedes' schedule and 2008 recruiting class of 44 newcomers and six transfers. Seven of the 50 are from Kansas.

Bethany opens the season with McPherson on Sept. 13 at the renovated Anderson Field in a 7 p.m. start. The Swedes nonconference game will be on the road at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., Sept. 20. Tabor will be the visitor at homecoming on Oct. 11. Kansas Wesleyan will host the Swedes at Salina Stadium on November 8.

Of the seven Kansans recruited by Cruce and his staff, five are from the Salina Journal circulation area.

Alec Begnoche is a 5-10, 225 pound defensive lineman from Wakefield. Seth Bell is a 5-9, 180-pound defensive back, punter and kicker from Beverly.

Taylor Dirks of WaKeeney is a 6-0, 220 pound linebacker. Derek Moos will arrive at Bethany from Clay Center. Moos is a 6-0, 205-pound linebacker. Andrew Westbrook of Canton will enter as a 6-0, 170 pound defensive back.

Other Swede recruits come from Texas, Missouri, Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio, California, Colorado, Nevada and Arkansas.
