LINDSBORG -- Two athletes from Kansas Wesleyan have been chosen the Kansas Conference's baseball players of the week.

Ronny Romo, a sophomore first baseman from Chandler, Ariz., was the Player of the Week, and Casey Barnes, a sophomore pitcher from Chandler, was the Pitcher of the Week.

Romo hit .500 (9 for 18) in six games last week, all KWU victories. He had two home runs, drove in 10 and scored three.

Barnes had a 0.75 earned run average in 12 innings. He allowed one run in 12 innings, struck out nine and walked two in winning both games.

Wesleyan is in first place in the KCAC standings with a 10-2 record and has won is last 14 games.

Bethany second baseman Kelli Noonan was named KCAC co-Player of the Week in softball. Noonan, a senior from Salina, hit .615 in four games, going 8 for 13 with four runs and three RBI. The Swedes won all four games.

She shared the honor with Friends' third baseman Annie Matthews. Brandi Leeker of Friends was the softball Pitcher of the Week.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Four former Kansas Wesleyan football players and one from Bethany have been chosen to play in the Victory Sports Network Senior Classic.

The game, scheduled for April 19 in Platte City, Mo., features some of the graduating seniors from NAIA schools nationwide. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Cornerback Willie Johnson, linebacker Colten Campbell and offensive linemen Dustin Pugh and Aaron Gay from Wesleyan, and free safety Ryan Johnson from Bethany were selected to play for the American squad.

Former Bethany coach and NAIA Hall of Fame member Ted Kessinger will coach the American team.

Seven Bethel seniors also were chosen to play for the American squad -- one of them first-team All-American defensive back Brandon Kaufman -- along with seven from Southwestern, three from Friends and two from Ottawa.

Three Sterling seniors were selected to play for the National squad.
