Corporation commission seeking comment on Midwest Energy rate hike

The Kansas Corporation Commission is accepting written comments through June 16 from Midwest Energy customers concerning a proposed electric service rate increase.

Midwest Energy is seeking to raise rates about $10 million, or 10 percent. The utility, headquartered in Hays, serves about 48,000 customers. The cooperative's last rate increase was in 2003, when it was granted a $600,000 rate increase.

Written comments should reference Docket No. 08-MDWE-594-RTS and may be e-mailed to public.affairs@kcc.ks.gov or mailed to the Kansas Corporation Commission, Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, 1500 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS. 66604. Customers also may contact the KCC's Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection toll-free at (800) 662-0027.

For more information, see the commission's Web site at http://kcc.ks.gov.
