Wind turbine work just getting started
BROOKVILLE -- It likely will be a few more weeks before concrete work for a new educational wind turbine gets done -- and some time after that before the turbine is erected, Superintendent Jerry Minneman told the Ell-Saline School Board on Monday night.
Ell-Saline was one of five schools selected last year to receive the 1.9 kilowatt wind turbines, through the Kansas Wind for Schools program. The turbines are designed to teach students about wind energy, not for powering the schools.
Minneman said the Wind for Schools program initially had hoped to erect the turbine at Ell-Saline before the end of the school year, but construction of the turbine in Fairfield was delayed in recent weeks by heavy rains, pushing the rest of the schedule back.
