Holocaust surviver to speak at KWU
A survivor of the Holocaust who went on to become an award-winning author will speak Wednesday at Kansas Wesleyan University as part of Holocaust Remembrance Week at the school.
Inge Auerbacher will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Sams Chapel and be available to meet with the public afterwards in the Memorial Library.
Auerbacher was 7 when she and her parents were taken in 1942 from Germany to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Czechoslovakia, which was liberated by the Soviet army in May 1945.
Other events this week include an exhibit of Holocaust-related art in Sams Hall of Fine Arts, and an exhibit of Holocaust material in the Memorial Library.
Today, the school will show the documentary "Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport" about a program in the 1930s to send Jewish children to foster families in England. The film runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 325 of Pioneer Hall.
An open house with the Holocaust art exhibit is set for 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Auerbacher and art department chair Brad Anderson providing commentary.
