WICHITA -- Drew Diederich was not yet born the last time it happened.
Neither were any of his Sacred Heart teammates.
And yet as the Knights set their sights on the school's first boys team title in 26 years this weekend at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships, the focus is much narrower.
Salina Central repeat state boys golf qualifier
LAWRENCE -- A return trip to state was never a given. Not after Salina Central lost its top two players from last year's state qualifying team and had only one senior among its top six this season.
Now that the Mustangs have played their way back to the Class 5A boys state golf tournament, head coach Patrick Newell isn't exactly sure what to expect.
No Average Jones: South sprinter shines at 5A regional
Michael Jones had waited all season for this day.
Yes, setting personal best on the way to a sprint sweep was nice, but what really had him smiling was the 400-meter relay.
"I'm really happy about that," Jones said after teaming with Michael Gier, Christian Linenberger and Marcus Cutler to tie the school record in the Class 5A track and field regional at Salina Stadium. "Today it felt like our 4-by-100 team came together finally.

TOPEKA -- Salina South junior Martina Schartz and the Cougars' 400 freestyle relay team qualified for today's championship finals at the Class 5-1A Girls State Swimming Championships.
Top seed Bishop Carroll ends Salina Central's season, 3-0
WICHITA -- All it took was one quick connection to take the wind out of Salina Central's sails.
That Bishop Carroll had that wind at its back the entire second half didn't help, either.
Carroll freshman Emily Woods broke a scoreless tie less than 30 seconds after intermission, then added a perfect strike from distance seven minutes later as the top-seeded Eagles ended Central's season Thursday night with a 3-0 victory in the Class 5A South Central Region 1 soccer final.
Class 5A soccer: Pony express runs over Goddard Eisenhower, 7-1
Salina Central didn't waste any time declaring its postseason intentions.
The No. 8-seeded Mustangs scored in the opening minute and never let No. 9 Goddard Eisenhower off the mat Tuesday night on the way to a 7-1 Class 5A regional soccer rout at Salina Stadium.
"It was awesome," said Central midfielder Jorrie Dykes, who scored the first three of five second-half Mustang goals. "You see that score all the time from a one-seven seed (game), but hardly ever in an eight-nine seed."
Softball: State-ranked Seaman ends South's season
TOPEKA -- The Salina South's softball team's season came to an abrupt end Tuesday as the Cougars ran into No. 7-ranked Topeka Seaman in the Class 5A regional final.
Seaman (18-3), the top seed in the regional, pushed six runs across in the bottom of the third off South starter Paige Crawford on the way to a 12-2 run-rule victory that ended after six innings. The Cougars, the No. 4 seed who knocked off No. 5-seeded Salina Central in the regional opener, finished their season with a 7-15 record.
