LAWRENCE -- Len E. "John" Bogart Jr., 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. He was born April 11, 1927, in Abilene to Len Sr. and Emma Bogart. Survivors: wife, Edith; sons, Michael (Susan) and Jon "Jay" (Martha); three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Vernon C. Brown Sr.
Vernon C. Brown Sr., 78, of Salina, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. Vernon was born July 20, 1931, in Verdi to George and Marie Brown. He worked for the Salina Fire Department for 18 years, then as a general contractor until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; one son, Vernon Jr. and wife Trinette Brown, of Salina; four daughters, Jayne and husband Mark Benson, of Salina, Regina and husband Mark Wright, of Platteville, Colo., Joane and husband Brian Schmitt, of Salina, and Sylvia Dillow, of Concordia; one brother, Frank and wife Kay Brown, of Salina; one sister, Edith and husband Frank Stransky, of Hesperia, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov 23, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. There is no visitation.

Frederick W. Fielder
CONCORDIA -- Frederick Wayne Fielder, 83, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Cloud County Health Center as a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease directly related to many years of smoking. Mr. Fielder was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Ellis, Neb., where his father and grandfather worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company. In 1938, his family moved to Esbon, where he graduated from high school in 1944. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific theater of World War II and with the Army ccupation of Japan. He went to work for the Rock Island Railroad in 1948 as a student fireman and a short time later, transferred to the clerical department, where he worked at various positions over the next 31 years. He also held the position of terminal manager with headquarters in Belleville for Wabash Valley Railroad, a temporary government subsidized operation. He later worked for Kyle Railroad Company in 1982 as a member of the staff. He retired in 1984. Mr. Fielder served as president of the Pikes Peak Traffic Club, organized and served as president of the Northern Kansas Rail Association, and he was one of three people who organized the Kansas Railroad Company and served as resident agent for that company in the state of Kansas. In 1981, he helped formulate and write the first mileage grain tariff for the Iowa Railroad Company and served a short time as vice president of tariff for that company. He was a former member of the Elks, Moose, and Eagles lodges and is currently a 50-year member of VFW Post 3722 in Belleville.
He was united in marriage to Helen Joan Post, of Lebanon, and from this union, four children were born and all of whom survive and are Ronald Scott Fielder and wife Kathy, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Philip Wayne Fielder and wife Patricia, of Hays, Candace Joan Fielder, of Freehold, N.J., and Pamela Sue Raineri and husband Bruce, of Lawrence, Mass. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Bryce Fielder and wife Sarah, of Green Bay, Wis., Blayne Fielder and wife Christa, of Palo, Iowa, Kelly Fielder, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Kelsi Rogers and husband Daniel, of Lawrence, Keegan Fielder, of Hays, Jenise Reep, of Kansas City, Kan., and Joanne Raineri, of Lawrence, Mass. In addition, Fred is survived by six great-grandchildren, Jenna, Jacey, Cal, Chase, and Reid, and Joshua. Other survivors include his second wife, Marcelline Bonebrake, of the home; three stepsons, Kale Bonebrake and wife Juanita, of Emporia, Lyle Bonebrake and wife Theresa, of Concordia, and Earl Bonebrake and wife Brenda, of Beloit: two stepdaughters, Connie Bonebrake, of Concordia, and Joyce McClanahan and husband Ken, of Clyde; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by a half brother, Roger Fielder, of Kansas City, Kan.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. Sixth St., P.O. Box 606, Concordia 66901, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry Brinkman officiating, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, with military honors by Fort Riley.

Linda Funk
HILLSBORO -- Linda Funk, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. She was born June 3, 1912, in Hillsboro to Ferd and Susie (Doering) Janzen. Preceded in death: husband, Jacob; daughter, Ruth Ann Thieszen; and brother, Herman Janzen. Survivors: sons, Donald Nelson (Marsha), of Lincolnton, N.C., and Roger (Joan), of Lake Zurich, Ill.; sister, Violet Bartel, of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Wilbur Graver
HAYS -- Wilbur Graver, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Ash Valley to Andrew and Viola (Wagner) Graver. Survivors include his wife, Alice; daughter, Arlene Hammond (Randy), of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sons, Kent (Lisa), of Great Bend, and Randall (Geralyn), of Victoria; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Leon; and sisters, Faye Kline and Lillian Graver. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Oscar Warren Hooper
Oscar Hooper, 89, of Salina, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. He was born Sept. 27, 1920, in a farm house in Morris County to Harvey John and Nellie Bettie Hooper. After graduating from high school in 1939, he taught two years in a rural school in Wabaunsee County. He served in the European Theater with the 65th Infantry Division in World War II. After returning from the military, he worked at Alta Vista Produce Company, until 1951. He then joined Gambles Store Company, working there until 1975, when he went to work for Waters True Value, retiring in 1986.
On Aug. 4, 1946, he was married to Vera Andres and they enjoyed 63 years together. Doing for his family was his No. 1 priority. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; a son, Barry; a daughter, LaVonda; a brother, Edwin Hooper and his wife, Ethel; a sister, May Swartz and her husband, Duane; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernon and wife Betty.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina 67401, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, in Alta Vista Cemetery, Alta Vista.

Raymond R. Lamoree
BEELER -- Raymond Richard Lamoree, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.
He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Gorham to Levi and Laura Lamoree. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veta, on May 6, 2005; three sisters; a brother; and a son-in-law. Survivors include his daughters, Linda Shomo, of Clovis, N.M., Gayla Michaelis, of Ness City, and Gwenda Philbrook, of Salina; son, Gary Lamoree, of Beeler; brother, Ralph Lamoree; sisters, Ruth Wells, Loretta Schadel and Dorthea Robinson; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 21, at Beeler United Methodist Church. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, is handling arrangements.
Donald Leiker
HAYS -- Donald Leiker, 74, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009. He was born March 13, 1935, in Hays to Alois and Martha Leiker. Survivors: wife, Royalan, of the home; sons, Derek (Pam), Joe (Cathy) and Craig (Julie); daughter, Krista Gottschalk (Chris); a brother; a sister; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Cline's Mortuary, Hays, and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

Michael J. Maloney
HUTCHINSON -- Michael J. Maloney, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Hutchinson, the son of John "Jack" and Nathalie McCaffery Maloney.
Michael graduated from Haven High School in 1964 and attended the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
An avid KU basketball fan, he often said, "Allen Fieldhouse was the only place on the campus where I had perfect attendance." He served with the Kansas Air National Guard as a staff sergeant from 1968 to 1974. A farmer and rancher, he lived in the home place, which was homesteaded by his great-great-grandfather. Michael also worked as a Realtor with McNaughten Realty.
Survivors include his brother, Patrick Maloney and wife Carole, of Kingman; sister, Maureen Morrison and husband Roger, of Salina; nephews, Michael Maloney and wife Angie, of Kingman, Brian Maloney and wife Melissa, of Germantown, Md., and Aaron Morrison, of Salina; nieces, Amy Dobbins and husband Mark, of Olathe, and Molly Snyder and husband Lance and Megan Grossman and husband Michael, all of Leawood; stepnephew, Luke Nagel and wife Stacey, of Wichita; stepniece, Linda Nagel, of Mission; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Father James Weldon presiding.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to service Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hutchinson Community Foundation, in care of the mortuary.

Laurence O'Hara, 77, of Salina, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009.

Howard Scott Wells
NESS CITY -- Howard Scott Wells, 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Ness County Hospital, Ness City. He was born Sept. 1, 1931, on the family farm near Scott City, the son of William H. and Alice Flaiz Wells. He was a cattleman, horse trainer and cowboy who had been a Ness City resident since 1985. Prior to that, he spent many years cowboying in the Kansas Flint Hills.
Survivors include three brothers, Malvin and Willard Wells, both of Scott City, and Ed Wells, of Leoti; and three sisters, Willma Baker, of Scott City, Charlotte Holmes, of San Diego, and Alita Barrows and husband Rodney, of Ness City. He is also survived by four stepchildren, Gerald Adam, of Solomon, Vickie Schmidt and husband Norman, of Abilene, Terry Adam, of Denton, Texas, and Tim Adam and wife Myra, of Herington. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maggie Conine.
Howard was cremated and his family will honor his memory at Scott City Cemetery today, Nov. 21. His ashes will be committed to his favorite pasture in Ness County. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, is handling arrangements.
