Elinor L. "Elly" Armour, 84, of Salina, died Saturday, March 20, 2010.

Dr. Samuel E. Brick Jr.
SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. -- Dr. Samuel Elmer Brick Jr. died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the age of 92, in Safety Harbor. He was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Salina, Kan., to Samuel Elmer Sr. and Lillian Belle Padgett Brick. He attended public schools in Salina, and in 1939, he received a B.A. in Music and German from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. He received an M.S. and Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Kansas.
From 1942 until 1945, he was a high-speed Morse code operator in the United States Army Air Corp stationed in the South Pacific and earned the rank of staff sergeant.
He taught on all levels in the Kansas public schools and was employed as a professor of music at Carthage College from 1952 to 1968, and the University of Tampa from 1968 until 1982. While at the college level, he served as both departmental and division chairs. In 1968, Sam received the "Man of the Year" award from a fraternity, and the "Outstanding Professor Award" in 1970 from the University of Tampa. Sam loved music and played the trombone and piano. He also sang in a Barbershop Quartet and directed church choirs.
During his retirement years, Sam performed background jazz music at special events and on the keyboards in the Rocky Creek Kitchen Band. Other interests included acting, gardening, bridge, photography, traveling, and tennis.
In 1947, he was married to Marilyn Estey Macferran, of Topeka, and they had three children, John, Robert, and Sarah. He will be remembered for his love of music, teaching, impeccable honesty, integrity, self-discipline, philanthropy, sense of humor, love of fun, incredible memory, kindness, gentleness, love of family, keen intellect, and love of sweets.
Sam's legacy is the difference that he made in the lives of his students.
He was preceded in death by his father, in 1920; mother, in 1963; brother, Eugene, in 1973; sisters, Alice, in 1998, and Kathryn, in 1992; son, John, in 2001; and wife, Marilyn, in 2009. He is survived by his son, Robert and wife Yvonne Brick, of Clearwater; daughter, Sarah and husband Steve Archer, of Tahlequah, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Pamela Brick, of Valrico; granddaughters, Christina and Laura Brick, Rachel Archer, and Carly Bellido DeLuna; grandson, Felix Bellido DeLuna; great-granddaughter, Arianna Maldonado; as well as nieces and nephews.

Elgie N. Cooper, 63, of Salina, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010. Elgie Cooper was born April 30, 1946, in Keytesville, Mo., to the late William Vaden and Mary Louzetta (Scott) Cooper. He had worked at the Ramada Inn, Salina, and at J.C.'s Bar & Grill, Salina, for many years.
Survivors include sisters, Beverly Harding, of Wichita, and Rosemary (Dave) Geering, of Salina; brothers, Ronald (Patty) Cooper, of Douglas, and Stephen Cooper, of Salina; and many nieces and nephews.

Eddie R. DeHerrera II
Mr. Eddie R. DeHerrera II, 78, of Salina, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Hospice of Salina. Mr. DeHerrera was born March 4, 1932, in Saguache, Colo., to the late Eddie R. DeHerrera Sr. and Juanita Martinez.
Eddie attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, of Salina, for many years. He was retired from the United States Marshal Service and the private business sector.
He was married to Mayo (Mondragon) DeHerrera, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Darlene Pena, of Vail, Colo., Lillian DeHerrera, of Salina, and Vivian Jones, of Saguache; four sons, Eddie R. DeHerrera III and Roger DeHerrera, both of Topeka, Dan DeHerrera, of Salina, and Vernon DeHerrera, of Culver, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, James DeHerrera.

SYLVAN GROVE -- Margaret A. (Cheney) Rippie, 90, of Sylvan Grove, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010. She was born March 2, 1920, in rural Sylvan Grove. She was a retired homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Steven Rippie (Debbie), of South Hutchinson; five daughters, Barbara Hollis (Jerry), of Lincoln, Terri Cannon (Randy) and Shirley Hollis (Marvin), all of Topeka, Mary Jo Burch (Marvin), of Osborne, and Sherri Murphy (Doug), of Salina; two brothers, Anthony and Glen Cheney, both of Ash Grove; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Rippie, in 1999; a sister, Mildred Herman, 2003; a brother, Harold Cheney, 2001; and a granddaughter, Becky Buchanan-Ashton, in 2007.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Rodrick & Minear, Sylvan Chapel, Funeral Home, Sylvan Grove.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the Sylvan Grove Presbyterian Church, Sylvan Grove, with burial in the Vesper Cemetery.

Harold Dee Schropp
ASSARIA -- Harold Dee Schropp, 76, of Assaria, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010. Dee was born March 29, 1933, in Beverly to Phillip and Berle Schropp. He owned and operated Schropp Company Inc. Highway Construction, out of Assaria, for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Frances Joan Schropp, in 1990; second wife, Loretta M. Boucher-Schropp, in 2007; his parents; and two brothers, Donald D. and R. Dean Schropp.
He is survived by his children, Rory Schropp, of Lindsborg, Lonny Schropp and Jona Roberts, of Assaria, and Jeremy Schropp, of Eugene, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and dog, Katie.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, March 22, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the mortuary chapel, followed by graveside service and burial in Assaria Lutheran Cemetery.
