The season’s first winter weather crept into western Kansas Saturday, setting off a few traffic accidents.

Light flurries appeared in Salina late Saturday afternoon but didn’t accumulate or slicken roads.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported injury accidents on slick bridges in Logan and Mitchell counties. In Trego County, the sheriff’s office received reports of slide-offs but no serious accidents.

Many western counties had a wintery mix overnight — freezing rain, sleet or snow flurries were reported in most counties in the western half of the state and north of Interstate Highway 70.

In Logan County, 43-year-old Sundae L. Bolin, of Scott City, was driving a 2005 Jeep north on Kansas Highway 83 around 7 a..m. when she lost control while crossing a bridge. The Jeep hit a 2005 Chevy pickup parked on the east shoulder.

Bolin, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Logan County Hospital. A passenger in the Jeep, Dwight Krebs, also of Scott City, was not injured.

In Mitchell County, Kevin Rich, 23, of Downs, was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup east on U.S. 24 about a mile and a half west of Cawker City around 9 a.m. He lost control while passing another vehicle on a bridge. The truck rolled and came to rest in the westbound lane.

Rich and a passenger in the truck, David Rich, 50, also of Downs, were taken to the Mitchell County Hospital with possible injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.
