FORT RILEY – Planned troop reductions over the next five years will affect every military installation, U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno told reporters Friday afternoon in a short news conference at Fort Riley.
Regarding base realignment that would require congressional approval, Odierno said he doesn’t expect that Fort Riley will endure a major impact.
He visited the Army post near Junction City to gauge the readiness of troops after a training exercise, dubbed Unified Endeavor, that involved roughly 2,500 military personnel from several nations and all of the U.S. services as they prepare to deploy to Afghanistan sometime this year.
Odierno said the troops are ready for their mission.
