Talking back to Ext. 333

"Sarah Palin's book is awesome. I suggest it to anyone who wants to read something good, get that book. It's wonderful. She can now pass her crayons on to the Obama Administration for their reaction to Fox News. You want to talk about some babies."

How do you know the book is "awesome" and "wonderful?" It won't be released until Nov. 17.

"Good grief. Sunday's front-page headers were about death, death and how Al-Qaeda is planning more of it. Can I get anything more pleasant to go with my morning coffee?"

No problem. We serve up a cup of "Jo" every Sunday morning on the Opinion Page with columnist Jo Reed. Our Jo goes with anything.

"It is the time of year to start locking your cars; 900 block of Sherman, hoodlums going through cars and taking things from glove boxes and consoles, so lock them up, everyone."

We don't understand why folks leave their cars unlocked. That aside, try leaving one of those big rat traps hidden in the glove box, console or under a seat. A broken finger or two might cure thieves' bad habits.

"I would like to say thank you to Mike Mattson for his commentary on the opinion page about 'Why can't I become gay?' I have been trying to tell people this for years. I am a gay man and he said what I've been trying to say for years. Thank you, very much."

That was a great thought-provoking piece. What a terrific writer. We hope his column made a dent in misperceptions about sexuality.

"Here is a look back at some of the Salina chamber banquet speakers. Republican politician, Republican politician's wife, Republican politician, Republican political appointee, friend of Republican politicians, Republican appointee, sports figure, sports broadcaster. Sounds like it is time for another Republican politician. We have to keep it fair and balanced, you know."

The chamber does not have to keep it fair and balanced. It invites speakers that create interest among its primarily Republican members in an overwhelmingly Republican state. If folks don't like it, they can raise tens of thousands of dollars and bring in their own big-name player.

"There is a misunderstanding of the term 'created equal.' It takes a man and a woman to create another person. Hence, everyone is made in exactly the same way. Equality ends there. All have different characteristics."

From "Animal Farm," by George Orwell: "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others."

This may surprise you Alan, but a large number of the chamber's members are liberals and I personally know a few who are considering dropping their membership over this decision, which they have every right to do. The unfortunate thing is that the chamber feels fit to host divisive, obtuse, partisan, narcissistic political figures whom know very little about the business community in which the chamber purportly represents. Forget political opinions, there is just very little common sense behind this decision.

Absoutely correct on your comment about the complaint of Chamber speakers. If you libs don't like it then have some bake sales or tea parties and raise your own money, but don't complain about how others spend their money.
