Student accused of pushing teacher

A Lakewood Middle School student accused of pushing a teacher to the floor Tuesday was arrested on a battery charge.
Patrick H. Gleeson, 14, 4020 E. Stimmel, was turned over to Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services after the incident, which occurred at 11:30 a.m. at the school at 1135 Lakewood Circle, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
Gleeson was upset with another student and is accused of trying to push teacher Jeffrey L. McDonald out of the classroom doorway, Mansfield said. McDonald fell backward, striking his head on the floor. He was treated at Salina Regional Health Center for a concussion, Mansfield said.

Oh, if the public only knew what some kids were allowed to get away with at LMS. I'd bet some parents would pull their kids a.s.a.p. if they knew half of what I know.

Thank you Where is the compassion! Kids can't be just kept out of school for weeks or longer. Even if he was kicked out of LMS he would just end up in another school. Then would that school be a joke as well because they were following the law by allowing the student to attend school? Seriously know what you are talking about before you start talking. LMS is a good school with good teachers and staff.

I would look into the teacher really close because I was a product of Salina schools and I know first hand that if he was not a teachers pet then he was put down by teachers too. I have saw teachers tease students worse than the kids it is just a shame.

This is in response to the posts by: Whatever and Vigilante -The elderly need constant attention so it saddens me to hear that you let them fall ALL of the time. Apparently you've been "lucky" that none of your patients have had concusions. As far as Mr. McDonald's injury, common sense would tell you that if someone falls and hits the back of their head on a hard surface their is a significant chance of head trauma. Concerning the 14 yr. old student returning to Lakewood, he probably will be able to return. It will depend on past disciplinary problems etc... The government states that all children are entitled to an education, this includes students with behavioral issues. I applaud Mr. McDonald and all teachers in todays society. I wish Mr. McDonald a quick recovery.

Concussions and other brain injuries are fairly common. About every 21 seconds, someone in the United States has a serious brain injury. One of the most common reasons people get concussions is through a sports injury. High-contact sports such as football, boxing, and hockey pose a higher risk of head injury, even with the use of protective headgear. People can also get concussions from falls, car accidents, bike and blading mishaps, and physical violence, such as fighting. Guys are more likely to get concussions than girls. However, in certain sports, like soccer, girls have a higher potential for concussion. http://kidshealth.org/teen/safety/first_aid/concussions.html

The young people these days believe the world revolves around them and they're more likely to use violence in a conflict. They don't want to talk it out and reach a compromise to resolve the conflict.

im not defending heathens or anything but i find it hard to believe that the teacher hit his head hard enough to sustain a concusion. i take care of elderly people who fall ALL the time, even on tile and concrete floors, and very rarely do we see concusions!!!
