Utilities work to restore power

8/11/2009

Thousands of people remained without power Tuesday morning in the wake of a hurricane-force storm that lashed the area about noon Monday.

Westar Energy reported nearly 1,400 customers in Saline County were without power around 9:30 a.m., and another 238 in Dickinson County.

Meanwhile, DS&O Electric Cooperative was reporting heavy damage to its system and had some 1,200 customers without power, mostly south of Interstate Highway 70 between Solomon and Junction City.

The two utilities are working together to restore power, as in several places, Westar transmission lines had fallen over DS&O lines.

Many thanks to the electric crews out working to restore power. We traveled the area looking at the storm damage Monday and after seeing the damage, we figured it would be several days before power was restored. Just under 24 hours of loosing power it was restored to our home. Great work guys. I know it was hot and it took much work, but you are appreciated.
