Snow causing problems in parts of Kansas

11/16/2009

The first measurable snow of the season is causing problems in north-central Kansas. Up to five inches of snow has been reported in parts of Republic and Washington counties, making travel difficult.
Some vehicles are slipping as they attempt to go up steep hills along U.S. Highway 36 in western Washington County, a dispatcher said. Kansas Department of Transportation crews are working to clear the roads.
Travel is being discouraged in Washington County, and school was canceled today, the dispatcher in Washington said.
Jewell County law enforcement is working a car crash this morning, but it’s unknown whether it was related to the weather.
Republic County reported two to five inches of snow this morning. Farther south in Cloud County, snow is “just covering the grass,” Concordia police Sgt. Rick Voelker said. Roads are wet, but not yet slick.
