Sirens sound but no damage, injuries reported

7/3/2009

Tornado sirens were sounded in Salina about 8:45 p.m. Friday as a “precautionary measure” after a tornado was reported to have touched down between New Cambria and Solomon, according to Jennifer Ewing, a dispatcher with the Salina Police Department. However, Ewing said there were no reports of damage or injuries in Saline County. A dispatcher with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office also said she had received no reports of damage or injuries as of about 9:20 p.m. Friday.

LOL. I enjoy you guys complaining they sound the sirens. You guys remind me of all the people in new orleans who complain about the evacuations for hurricains. I especially enjoy those of you who think the siren means to go sit on the porch. if you were in new orleans you would be the ones on the roofs waiting on the boats and fema to come save your butts. If they waited for a tornado to hit something before sounding them you would be the first complaining they waited too long.

I have heard the sirens too much, and there is nothing. to me the sirens mean get a glass of tea and come sit on the porch and watch the rain.

Without Sirens says....
Be Thankful you live where there are sirens! It is your choice to make the decision as what you do after you hear the sirens!

sirens says....
look on the bottom of your local stations . Its in blue most times .The national weather service is the one that issues the warnings and watches. So I guess you that are complaining should call them with your complaints. I am sure they will understand after all devastation they have witnessed from tornadoes.......call them..don't blame your city

no reason the weather service had them issue one for shiots and giggles,,where do you think the city gets their call on when to issue one...you would all be crying if that hadn't blown them

SO WHAT IF THEY BLOW THE SIRENS ITS YOUR CHOICE TO TAKE COVER OR NOT.....NO ONE IS MAKING YOU GET IN YOUR BASEMENT AS FOR SOME OF US...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ...I WOULD RATHER GET TO MY BASEMENT EVEN IF WE DON'T GET CLEANED OUT BY A TORNADO ..stop complaining ...some of us take it serious and will seek shelter regardless....and for those that choose to ignore the sirens that's your choice

This is the same problem Wichita just delt with! We need to isolate specific parts of the county instead of crying wolf; especially after the storm passed and was eastbound away from town. Sad to when PD is denying seeing anything in the air but the same exact cell makes it to the east edge of the city before the decision is made to activate the sirens. I saw the funnel cloud reported from the west side of town!

It's all good says....
I am grateful for Abilene sounding the sirens. Let me know there might have been something to see outside. So I went and sat on the porch for a while. Never did see anything but a bit of rain, some cool lightening, ans a bit of thunder. All the while a gentle breeze was blowing out of the north.

the storm had past and I hear the sound of sirens... That was odd!

My husband was on I-70 west bound at Abilene when the sirens hit. I was able to alert him to travel south out of harms way. What a blessing the notice was for our family.

Safe says....
I was one of many who called the Police department to complain about the EBS length, and then called cox to complain and finally got some one after 15 minutes of their lousy customer phone service. They did state they had digital problems after EBS - most likely needed to reboot the computers. Anyway it finally came up too late for keeping track of the weather. As far a the sirens going off when the tornado is north east of Salina? Sounding the siren when there is no danger will result in fewer people heeding the need to cover next time they sound. Salina was in no danger, are we sure it was worth it to tell everyone the sky was falling?

Safe, not Sorry says....
I know there will be some who will be in a twist because the sirens were sounded in Salina. I want to go on the record to say "Thank you". I would so rather be unnecessarily safe instead of sorry. Also, why does Cox disable the digital box when the sirens sound? There are many many people without radios!
