Boys accused of setting fire at gazebo

Salina police arrested two 14-year-old boys in connection with a small arson fire at a Lakewood Park gazebo.
Corey P. Saulenus, 844 Sheridan, and Jordan B. Glassburn-Hoesli, 228 S. 11th, were each arrested on one count of arson. Glassburn-Hoesli was also accused of attempted arson.
The boys were accused of burning a hole in the gazebo Tuesday, and then Glassburn-Hoesli is accused of returning to attempt to damage the gazebo further on Wednesday, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield. The gazebo sustained an estimated $500 damage.
The boys, who are students at Lakewood Middle School, were turned over to Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services, Mansfield said.

Kathy says....
I have thought for many years that kids who damage buildings, cars or other items belonging to others should have to make complete restution. In this case I would suggest that the boys earn the money to replace the lumber and help repair the gazebo. If they had to spend their time and money they might think before striking the next match or steal the next item. I believe that they think they will get away with this sort of thing and that they will just have to sit in detention or stay home from school. Bet their tunes would change if they had to put some effort into replacing the damages.

Hmmm. Firebugs eh? Let them pay for the damages they allegedly caused and then visit a burn unit at a hospital so they won't take this any further.
