Three Salinans, including one former school board member, will be interviewed Tuesday evening as six members of the Salina School Board begin deciding who the seventh member should be.

Following the resignation of board member Mike Wilson several weeks ago, the board solicited applications from members of the community who were interested in being appointed to serve the remaining two years of Wilson's term.

Those who applied by the March 31 deadline are Jim DuBois, who served two terms on the board ending two years ago; Raju Dandu, an associate professor of engineering technology at Kansas State University at Salina; and Amanda Michaelis, an administrator at Propane Central with a master's degree in public administration from the University of Missouri.

The three applicants will be interviewed by the board at its Tuesday meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. at the district office at 1511 Gypsum.

The board plans to vote on a successor to Wilson at its April 28 meeting.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting is recognition of the latest recipient of the Salina Education Foundation's LIFT scholarship. The Loan Initiative for Future Teachers provides scholarship loans of up to $5,000 a year for Saline County residents who are studying to become teachers and forgives one year of the loan for each year the student teaches in the Salina district after graduation.

The recipient this year is Joel Pruett, a 2007 graduate of Salina Central High School who is majoring in English and journalism education at Kansas State University.

A reception for Pruett is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the district office.

In other business, the board is scheduled to:

n Continue discussion of new policies regarding student use of cell phones at school.

n Approve a new health-science pathway, incorporating medical investigations 1, a new course called medical investigations 2 and a medical internship rotation.
