Crash leaves Scandia man critical

BELLEVILLE — A Scandia man who had to be extricated from his car following a two-vehicle crash in Thursday Belleville was in critical condition Friday at a Lincoln, Neb., hospital.
James C. Dowler, 62, was taken to Republic County Hospital and the flown to Bryan LGH Hospital, west campus, following a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and 23rd Street at 6:10 p.m. Thursday.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Dowler was driving west on 23rd Street when his car and a northbound car on U.S. 81, driven by Lynell B. Kallman, 50, Belleville, collided. Kallman was also possibly injured, but she was not taken to the hospital from the scene, the report said.
Dowler was not wearing a seat belt and Kallman was, according to the report.
