Businesses target of 'donation' scam
A new scam apparently is targeting businesses that accept donations, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said Friday.
He said a representative of a Saline County business reported Thursday receiving an email stating that a $6,900 donation recently was sent in error. The email said the donation should have been for $690, and the writer asked that the business send a refund to an address in Atlantic City.
Kochanowski said a phone number connected to an answering machine that law enforcement officers think is in Nigeria.
Kochanowski said the local business did not get scammed, but he wanted the public to be on alert.
