RUSSELL — A 10-year-old Russell girl injured in a crash in heavy fog in Russell County Monday died of her injuries. Amanda Wiley died at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Francis campus of Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. Edward J. Wiley Jr., 42, and Anita Wiley, 49, were reported in critical condition at the Wichita hospital Monday. Ashley Wiley, 13, was in fair condition. All are from Russell. Their conditions Tuesday could not be confirmed. The Wileys were injured when the van they were in went into a ditch and struck an embankment in heavy fog just before 8 a.m. Monday. The crash occurred at the junction of U.S. Highway 281 and Kansas Highway 18, about 18 miles north of Russell, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. Edward J. Wiley was driving north on U.S. 281 and failed to stop at a stop sign at K-18. The van entered the north ditch and struck an embankment, the report said.
