Pickup truck rolls; man flown to hospital

A Belleville man was flown to a Lincoln, Neb., hospital Saturday after a hay rake he was towing with his pickup truck was struck from behind, causing his truck to roll.

Robert K. Cline, 56, was reported to be in serious condition at Bryan LGH Medical Center East after the wreck occurred at 12:10 p.m. on U.S. Highway 81 three miles south of the U.S. Highway 36 junction in Belleville.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Cline was driving north when a semi tractor-trailer driven by Gerald L. Daale, 58, of Hawarden, Iowa, struck the hay rake he was towing, pushing it over the top of the pickup. The pickup entered the ditch and rolled.

Daale was not injured. Thaddeus Cline, 35, Munden, who was a passenger in the pickup, was taken to Republic County Hospital in Belleville. No information about his condition could be given out, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The report said Daale was wearing a seat belt, and both Cline men were not wearing seat belts.
