A Salina man who was convicted for raiding a church collection plate in 2008 has been arrested for stealing a credit card from another local church.
Curtis L. Jackson, 24, of 1115 E. Iron No. 31, was arrested in connection with the Thursday theft of a credit card from Christ Cathedral, 138 S. Eighth.
Jerry S. Jones, of Hays, reported that someone took a credit card from his briefcase and used it to purchase $84 in food from the downtown Sonic restaurant, said Carson Mansfield, deputy chief of the Salina Police Department. Jackson was booked into the Saline County Jail on Monday night.
On June 22, 2008, the Rev. Carlos Ruiz found a man taking money out of a collection basket at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N. Ninth. He was not a member of the congregation and got away with an estimated $15.
Ruiz locked the man in a room and called police, but before officers arrived, the man got out of a window that was 10 to 12 feet above the ground.
In July, when Jackson showed up on crutches for a meeting with his probation officer, police put his picture in a lineup, and he was arrested after being identified.
Jackson pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and received 36 months of probation.
