Sunflower Insurance Group has honored Brenda Smith for 40 years of service to their organization. Smith began her career at what was then called Insurors & Investors in 1971 as an account technician. As the firm grew and expanded, she advanced into an account manager position and has worked with Jim Wilson as a production team member for the past 25 years.

Kenneth Ross Moberg, LCMFT, has joined the staff of the Sandstone Bridge Counseling Center Mental and Health Behavioral Services at 134 S. Santa Fe, Suite 130. Moberg has a clinical license in marriage and family therapy and is a clinical member of the AAMFT. He has 13 years experience working with couples and families, and is also a clinical supervisor.

Robert Little and Chase Peavy have been promoted to deputy patrol in the Saline County Sheriff's Office. Both had been corrections officers I. They will patrol assigned areas for crime prevention and enforcement of traffic laws.

Saline County Community Corrections has hired Brian Swenson as for the Juvenile Intake and Assessment-on call position. The Bethany College graduate will assess all youth arrested or children in need of care who come to the attention of law enforcement in Saline and Ottawa counties.

CONCORDIA -- Connie Walenta, of the Kastl-Powell Agency in Concordia, has been honored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors for her work in the insurance business. The organization is recognized as a leading continuing education program of insurance professionals. By maintaining her requirements for 20 years, Walenta ranks in the top 1 percent of all insurance professionals in the country.

KC&G Business Appraisal Associates has hired three business valuation analysts to the firm.

* John Cento is a certified public accountant, accredited in business valuation and a certified in financial forensics through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also an accredited senior appraiser through the American Society of Appraisers and a certified valuation analyst through the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. He specializes in the valuation of manufacturing companies and valuing intangible assets such as trade names and contract rights for loan collateralization and impairment. He focuses primarily on providing valuations for merger and acquisition purposes, ESOPs, and marital dissolutions.

* Laura Mahaney is a senior valuation analyst and an accredited member of the American Society of Appraisers. She earned her Master of Arts degree in economics from the University of South Carolina and her Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California at Davis. She has experience in valuing holding companies for tax compliance purposes, performing economic analyses for damages and lost profit calculations, as well has providing valuations for marital dissolution, FASB compliance and sales of business interests. Her industry expertise includes biotechnology, pharmaceutical, credit union, manufacturing, medical devise, health care and professional practices.

* Fawntel Romero is a financial analyst and an Accredited Member of the American Society of Appraisers. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Colorado State University, with an emphasis in actuarial science. She has experience in providing business valuations of common and preferred stocks, fractional interests in real estate and partnership interests primarily for tax compliance purposes. She has developed expertise in valuing entities which hold oil and gas interests.

Debbie Swearingen has joined UMB as senior vice president of commercial lending. Swearingen is responsible for new business development, commercial lending, customer service, treasury services and commercial banking solutions.

Swearingen brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services to this role. Prior to UMB, she served as senior vice president of the Johnson County Loan Production Office at Pinnacle Bank in Olathe. She has also worked in construction and development lending for Security Savings Bank in Olathe as a senior vice president, and as a vice president at Commerce Bank in Shawnee and Liberty Savings Bank in Liberty, Mo.

Swearingen earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas and also is a graduate of the American Bankers Association (ABA) Program for Commercial Lending School in Norman, Okla.
