County proposes park swap to boost expo center renovation

Saline County commissioners say their mandate was made clear in a recent survey regarding the Saline County Livestock and Expo Center: Most respondents favored the expo center staying in Kenwood Park, and that existing buildings be repaired.
What’s less certain though, say commissioners, is the security of any investment they might choose to make in the expo center, under the current lease agreement with the city for Kenwood Park.
“We can’t (fix it up) until we know we’ll be able to stay there,” Randy Duncan, commission chairman, said Tuesday.
Monday, Duncan and commissioners John Reynolds and Jerry Fowler asked their city commission counterparts to consider swapping Oakdale Park, which the county owns, for Kenwood Park, which is owned by the city.
At the conclusion of Monday’s discussion, Mayor Luci Larson said that the interlocal agreements and parks swap are topics that would merit another joint meeting with county commissioners. A date for that meeting will be scheduled sometime after the first of the year, perhaps in February or March.

brilliant idea! seems to make a lot of sense to me. I applaud the county commissioners for moving forward on this and wanting to get this done. This just makes a lot of sense!
