Colby residents work to get new plates in circulation

Francis Landry thinks he might have the cure for road rage: a license plate that says “In God We Trust.”
“It’s like my son said, ‘It’s hard to have road rage when you’re looking at a tag like that,’” Landry said.
Landry and his wife, Geri, of Colby, were visiting their son, Keith, who lives in Indiana, when they first saw the phrase printed on license plates. They thought it should be available in Kansas, too.
“We’d like everybody in Kansas to have one of these,” Landry said. “It’s a good message.”
Landry went to the Thomas County Treasurer’s Office with a photo he’d taken of an Indiana plate. He asked what it would take to make the tags available here and discovered it would take a lot.
This month — two years after the Landrys launched the effort — the tags became available for sale in county tag offices across the state.
