A fire that started in an upstairs bedroom caused extensive damage Monday night to a two-story house near New Cambria. The house at 5641 E. Mariposa was being rented by Phillip and Lisa Heath, who have four children. The home is on the same property as Homestead Milling, about six miles east of Salina and a quarter of a mile north of Old 40 Highway. Phillip Heath said everyone got out of the house safely, but a family cat was unaccounted for early in the evening. The fire was reported at 7:28 p.m., and it had been largely contained an hour later. Saline County Fire Districts 5 and 7 were called in to fight the blaze. Seven trucks and more than a dozen firefighters were at the house.
