KBI probes possible injuries to detention officer's son
The 5-month-old son of a McPherson County detention officer was placed in protective custody Friday after the baby was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon in a McPherson home, according to a McPherson Police Department statement.
The boy was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He remained hospitalized late Friday.
Authorities initially thought the boy suffered from an "unknown medical situation," according to the statement.
The boy was placed in protective custody and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was requested to investigate after police received information Friday afternoon that the child could have injuries that were caused by abuse, McPherson Police Chief Robert McClarty wrote in the statement issued late Friday.
McClarty and a KBI spokesman could not be reached for comment.
McPherson police were assisted by the Wichita Police Department in the initial investigation, according to the statement.
