Farmers Market to open May 30
5/4/2009
Food producers in north-central Kansas have enjoyed good growing conditions this spring, Madonna Sorell said, which could translate into good produce at the Salina Farmers Market.
The market, in its 10th season, opens 7:30 to 11 a.m. May 30 in the parking lot of Waters True Value Hardware, 460 S. Ohio, and will open each Saturday through September.
The market has about a dozen vendors this year, said Sorell, of Glasco, president of the board.
She raises and sells Heritage Red Wattle pork and some vegetables.
So far, a bountiful growing season is in the making, Sorell said
“With the rains, it’s been a good spring,” she said.
The market features garden vegetables, fruit (when it’s in season), homemade soaps, meat, eggs, products made from the herb lavender, honey and a few flowers.
“Right now, we do not have a steady flower vendor,” Sorell said.
Anyone interested in becoming a vendor may call Sorell, (785) 568-2777.
