Words of advice from an alleged car thief: Lock It or Lose It

By the Salina Journal

A Great Bend man who was being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence early Friday had an amusing comeback when Salina police told him the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.

"It's like Click It or Ticket," Trevor Moreno, 28, allegedly told police. "Lock It or Lose It."

Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield quoted Moreno as making the comeback at a media briefing Friday.

Lt. Scott Siemsen, criminal investigation commander with the department, said a passer-by called to report that a pickup truck was stuck in a median on North Ninth Street near the Interstate Highway 70 entrance. The caller said the driver appeared to be intoxicated, Siemsen said.

He said Moreno had apparently been attempting a turn when he encountered the median.

When a tow operator arrived to remove the truck, he simply engaged the four-wheel drive and was able to easily drive the truck off the median, Siemsen said.

Siemsen said that after officers responded to the call, police received a report that the truck had been stolen from Ellinwood.

Moreno is expected to face charges of DUI and possession of stolen property.

He also is expected to face charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, as officers found eight baggies of marijuana in the truck, Siemsen said.
