Abilene to consider Sunday liquor sales

ABILENE — Abilene city commissioners are scheduled to review a draft of a charter ordinance Monday that would allow Sunday and holiday liquor and beer sales.
Dan Meysenburg, owner of Meysenburg’s Liquor Store in Abilene, said he asked the commission to consider the charter ordinance mainly because he would like the opportunity to sell alcohol on Memorial Day, Labor Day and July 4.
Under the ordinance being drafted, sales on Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving would not be allowed, said Mayor Nesha Bailey-Mason.
“I’ve had some preliminary conversations about this, and people seem to have mixed feelings,” she said. “I have not talked to anyone who is strongly opposed at this point, but I’m certainly open to any feedback and will take it into consideration.”

So, assuming this does pass, will there be a gathering of do-gooders writing down the license plates of people buying alcohol on Sundays?

Whatever says....
I could be wrong, but as I recall, the last time this was discussed, Meysenburg didn't see any reason to open. Guess maybe he saw how much money he was losing to Chapman and Solomon? Myself, I think it doesn't really matter one way or another. If he wants to pay to have the store open, more power to him.
