A Houston man was killed early Wednesday morning when his car slid on ice on Interstate Highway 70 and rolled.
According to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Gustavo Gomez-Chavez, 39, was driving a 1996 Ford Mustang about 12:50 a.m. when the car hit ice near the Dorrance exit. The car crossed the median, went into the eastbound lanes, struck and rolled over a guardrail and came to rest on the exit ramp.
Gomez-Chavez and passenger Guillermina Ruiz-Evaristo, 26, also of Houston, were pinned in the vehicle. Gomez-Chavez was dead at the scene, while Ruiz-Evaristo was taken to Russell Regional Hospital; her condition was not available Wednesday afternoon.
