TALMAGE — The cause and origin of a house fire here Saturday night is still under investigation, the Dickinson County sheriff said Monday.
The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. at a two-story home occupied by Michael Schoby, 28, Renae Schoby, 27, and three children ages 7, 6 and 5.
The family wasn’t home when the fire broke out, Sheriff Gareth Hoffman said. Firefighters from Talmage, Longford, Manchester and Industry responded to the blaze.
Hoffman said an addition to the home was destroyed and the remaining structure was heavily damaged by flames, smoke and water. Investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office are working to find out how and where the fire started.
