K-4 reconstruction ranks high on state highway plan

ABILENE — Under Kansas’ last transportation plan, a decade’s worth of projects were selected all at once. Transportation officials crafting a new plan are seeking a more flexible and more frequent selection process.
The list of upper tier, or high-priority projects identified by the new selection scoring process includes reconstructing 10 miles of Kansas Highway 4 from Old U.S. Highway 81 to Gypsum.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Transportation cautioned that just because the project scored high in the selection process is no guarantee it will be included in a new transportation plan. They also advise that any project included may take years to come to fruition.
