Larry Hawkes appears to have won the mayor’s seat in Gypsum. Hawkes received 57 votes in his write-in campaign, defeating John Fritz Jr., the only candidate to file for office. Fritz received 53 votes, said Linda Leander, office specialist in the Saline County Clerk’s office. The incumbent, John Fritz Sr., did not file for re-election. The vote won’t be official until Friday, when Saline County commissioners canvass the votes. Leander was not aware if provisional ballots could affect the final tally.
