Two arrested on federal charges

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Matthew T. Jones, 31, and Ryan R. Hanzlick, 32, were taken into custody Thursday as part of an investigation into thefts of large farm equipment from the states of Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado.
The investigation involved the Thomas County, Kan., and Hayes County, Neb., sheriff’s offices, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the FBI in Kansas and Nebraska.
Jones and Hanzlick were indicted March 3. Both men are charged with 12 counts for the transport and transfer in interstate commerce of goods, wares, and merchandise which had a value of $5,000 or more, knowing same to have been stolen, converted and taken by fraud. According to the indictment, the thefts took place between November 2005 and April 2008.
Both men were arrested and taken into custody Thursday — Hanzlick in Hayes Center, Neb., at about 9 a.m. and Jones at about 12:30 p.m. in Colby.
If convicted, both men face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count.
