La Crosse man electrocuted in oilfield accident
ELLIS -- A 52-year-old La Crosse man was electrocuted Monday at an oilfield site in southern Ellis County.
Darrell F. Irvine, an employee with KBK Industries in Rush Center, was pronounced dead after being transported to Hays Medical Center by emergency responders after the accident.
According to Sheriff Ed Harbin, Irvine had been unloading fiberglass tanks in the 100 block of Vincent Street, about a half-mile north of the Rush County line, at around 11:30 a.m. when the mechanical boom he was operating came into contact with an overhead power line.
Harbin said Irvine's co-workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation after the incident until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Irvine died about an hour later.
