Two people escaped unharmed Friday morning when a clothes dryer ignited and filled a house on East Ellsworth Avenue with smoke.
Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams said Robin Robertson had the dryer unplugged and had attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived at about 7:40 a.m. at 226 E. Ellsworth.
Firefighters finished extinguishing the blaze and pulled the dryer out of the house, he said. The dryer is considered a total loss, he said.
He said the fire apparently was caused when a buildup of lint was ignited by the dryer's heating element.
