Boy accused of having marijuana at school
10/29/2009
A 14-year-old boy was arrested at Lakewood Middle School Tuesday, accused of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Brandon S. Letourneau, 1113 N. Fourth, was found to be in possession of about a third of an ounce of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the school at 1135 Lakewood Circle, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
Police were contacted after a school employee found Letourneau’s behavior to be suspicious, Mansfield said. He was taken to the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center but is not currently being held.

Ask any cop: potheads are the easiest to deal with. But they shouldn't be smoking the stuff until they're 21 and all their work is done.

You potheads that are trying too hard to legalize it are fighting a losing battle. It will never happen. Put the stogey out and clear your head.

They just add on the "intent to deliver" when ever they want? Sounds like A (single) small bag to me. And what is in it? They don't even know what weed looks like? Seems strange. Regulation would do a better job of keeping things like this from the kids. You can't regulate the blackmarket.

Marijuana will probably remain a criminalized substance because lots of people, organizations and industries have a vested financial interest in the status quo of marijuana prohibition. They want marijuana to remain completely unregulated, untaxed and controlled by criminals. Re-legalizing marijuana would make it substantially less profitable for not only growers and sellers, but also for lots of politicians and members of law enforcement. The notorious gangster Al Capone had hundreds of politicians and police officials on his payroll during the 1920s because of Alcohol Prohibition. Shouldn’t we assume that the drug cartels of today are following Capone’s business model?

When his supplier is 'outed' will he be charged with endangering a child, as if he was a youngster and it was found on a coffee table? The boy needs help- it's not too late for him- probation for some of these white-collar 'fraud' crimes that go on for years is ridiculous, also. We are only continuing a trend- while hardworking people pay more taxes, those wanting it easy cost us more. Make punishment fit and make it severe for those old enough to know better. Meanwhile I'll work two jobs to pay taxes, insurance, and child support for the kids that are living with me. Does this make sense? Only with justice today!

Cathy is completely right. Kids are kids and are curious of drugs and drinking. Subjecting your child to pick up drugs in bad neighborhoods is absolutely horrible. If they want to try it they should be able to pick it up at a local pharmacy. I can guarantee it would not be abused- it's just the facts. People are ignorant and fearful. Grow up people and quit living in the old ages.

What does this statement mean: was found to be in possession of about a third of an ounce of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia? Either it was marijuana or it was not! I take it that SPD or the SO can't tell what is the real deal or not. Maybe they need to go to a real drug course so they know what they are looking at and for. Why was this child's name released in the paper but the cop that was in the fight has still not been released that I know of? The police protect their own and the SJ selects what they want to print and of who.

alcohol is legal for adults & kids shouldnt be able to buy it & yet they still do... they would do the same thing with pot. Legalizing any drug would be stupid!

No Cathy, this is the result of a 14 year-old selling pot in school. If a 14 year-old drinks alcohol and gets behind the wheel of a car and kills someone, that is the result of a kid drinking and driving-not the prohibition of alcohol sales to minors. Don't use this bad situation as a platform for your legalization theories. It is what it is!

This is the result of marijuana prohibition, if it was legal and regulated, we would have the ability to better restrict access to those who are under the age of 21, as of right now, we've left the sales up to dishonest criminals who only care about the money being green, not who or how old the buyer is. This kid was probably selling it for someone else, without regard of the trouble the kid was being exposed to. This is exactly why it needs to be regulated and controlled under a legalization policy, you don't see kids selling vodka or ciggs at school do you! Legalize Marijuana for our children s sake, I'm tired of worrying about drug dealers selling to my kids when my back is turned, I would feel better if I knew someone would be carding my child instead, and so should ALL parents. Legalization will make our streets safer. PS. I love Salina.com
