Dickinson County authorities ask for help in finding arsonist

ABILENE — The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving a series of suspicious hay bale fires going back to November. The fires include: n Nov. 19, when four to six hay bales were set on fire on Vane Road north of Kansas Highway 4; n Nov. 20, when two to three hay bales were set on fire near KanEquip in the industrial park northeast of Herington early in the morning; n Nov. 25, when 45 hay bales were set on fire near the intersection of 200 Avenue and Sage Road during the evening; n Jan. 10, when three hay bales located near 400 Avenue and Sand Lane were set on fire late in the evening; n Jan. 15, when five hay bales near 400 Avenue and Sand Lane were set on fire in the evening; n Jan. 18, when 15 hay bales were set on fire early in the morning on 1000 Avenue near U.S. 77; n Jan. 24, when 52 hay bales were set on fire late in the evening on 800 Avenue near U.S. 77. An arrest has been made in the Nov. 25 fire. Anyone with information about any of the fires is asked to call the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, (785) 263-4081, or Crime Stoppers of Dickinson County, (888) 535-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
