Chapman boys charged in crime spree

ABILENE — Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman Wednesday released the names of the juveniles accused of stealing a car in Junction City and going on a three-county crime spree. Shawn Crabb and Travis Moreland, both 17, of Chapman, were charged Tuesday with burglary, drug possession, car theft, criminal damage to property and shoplifting. Moreland was also charged with aggravated battery, accused of hitting a Solomon man, Joe Lee Danley, with a car, Hoffman said. Danley was awakened early Saturday and went outside of his house to confront someone who was inside his vehicle. The person got into another vehicle, which hit Danley as it drove away. The boys were arrested later Saturday after a search that involved sheriff’s deputies, Abilene police officers and a Kansas Highway Patrol search aircraft. They are accused of stealing the car earlier in the week, burglarizing Kwik Shop stores in Enterprise and Abilene, stealing gas in Salina and the incident in Solomon. They were also found with a small amount of marijuana and prescription pills. Crabb and Moreland were taken Saturday to the North Central Kansas Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City. Hoffman said he was unaware where the boys were taken after their Tuesday court appearance.

Good job, officers! Thank you all for stopping and arresting those two criminals. They should be charged as adults. Get a free cup of coffee on me at your local coffee shop. Tell them "Kojak" sent you.
