County officials to ask commissioners for payroll change

11/14/2009

Saline County commissioners will be attending the annual Kansas Association of Counties conference in Overland Park on Monday and Tuesday, so the regular meeting Tuesday is canceled.

Commissioners will meet informally from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday in Room 209 of the City-County Building. Most sessions are open to the public. View the entire commission agenda at www.saline.org.

Thursday’s agenda includes a request to pay employees either through direct deposit or a payroll card account. The latter is similar to a debit card, whereby wages are deposited to the account by electronic transfer.

County officials say the move will reduce staff time and overhead expense of producing and managing a paper payroll.

The commissioners are also to consider a request from Saline County Rural Fire District No. 2 for new truck communication radios and from Emergency Management for eight portable radios to replace leased text pagers.
