An international corporation interested in hiring home-based customer service agents in Kansas will seek candidates at a statewide virtual career fair Monday.

Salina area job seekers may participate in the Convergys career fair between 9 and 10 a.m. or noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the KansasWorks office at 203 N. 10th. The KansasWorks office in Hays also will be a part of the two virtual career fair sessions.

Participants should dress appropriately and plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of a session.

During the career fair, job seekers have an opportunity to meet with a company representative via video conference to learn about Convergys and available job openings.

According to a statement issued by the Kansas Department of Commerce, the event will be the first time that job seekers will be able to come to one of 14 KansasWorks offices across the state for a simultaneous video conference with an out-of-state employer.

The company's website describes Convergys as a "global leader in relationship management." Convergys has about 70,000 employees in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and has global headquarters in Cincinnati, according to the website.

Convergys manages online and telephone customer service transactions for client corporations. More than half of the top 50 Fortune 500 companies use Convergys for customer service, sales and technical support, according to the website.

According to the KDOC statement, the home agent program is one of the fastest growing parts of the company. Home-based customer service agents handle client phone calls, Web chats and email inquiries for a variety of Convergys' client companies.

Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George wrote in the statement that Convergys' jobs represent a "legitimate work-from-home career opportunity that offers a flexible alternative to the traditional office setting."

KansasWorks staff will be available to help participants with resume preparation and job counseling services. Convergys will not conduct formal interviews during the career fair. Job seekers will be required to apply online through the company's website to be considered for open positions. Applications may be submitted at convergyswork athome.com or convergys.com/careers.

The KDOC statement said home agent positions include salary, health benefits, flexible scheduling and paid training. The pay is $9 an hour plus incentives, and employees working more than 20 hours a week are eligible for benefits and tuition reimbursement.

Certain home office standards are required, including a quiet work environment, a personal computer that meets minimum standards set by the company, high-speed Internet access and a noise-canceling headset.
