Clifton-Clyde named highest-performing school district in state

11/25/2009

The Clifton-Clyde School District has been named “Highest Performing Academic School District in Kansas” for student performance on the state assessment tests in the spring of 2009.
On those tests, all of the district’s schools placed in the top 5 percent statewide in both math and reading.
Clifton-Clyde High School placed 14th in the state on the tests, Clifton-Clyde Middle School placed 14th and Clifton-Clyde Grade School was the highest performing elementary school in Kansas.
In December, the district will be visited by Kansas State Board of Education member Kathy Martin and state Commissioner of Education Diane Debacker, who will observe teaching and learning in the schools.

I am not surprised by the results. Clifton-Clyde has always been a strong academic school. The teachers have always been great and the school's priorities have always been in order. Great job. Go Eagles!

The article present itself with a miss print. The Clifton-Clyde Middle School was 2nd in the state, not 14th. It was the CCHS that was 14th. I work for the district. I just want the correction noted. We have a wonderful group of students, teachers, Special Education support, along with parent and community. All in all we are a true EDUCATIONAL FAMILY. Congrats to all employees, teachers, students, administrators, and community patrons.

I believe TEACHER was only trying to make things clear to those who aren't aware of all the variables that figure into the whole picture. I am a teacher, too. I have taught in small schools and larger schools with many more groups to consider when figuring AYP. There is a big difference.....not excuses. Congrats to C-C.

I'm a teacher also. You should refer to the same poster my students are referred to: "Don't make excuses, make improvements".

I grew up in Clyde and graduated from Clifton-Clyde; what exciting news! It's great when a school can get recognition for academics rather than sports for a change.

That is great for Clifton-Clyde. Congrats for a job well done. I would like to know student to teacher ratio, number of students on IEPs or recieve other special services, ELL students, number of free/reduced lunches, number of minority students, etc. All these things affect scores regardless of what others may say. I know because I'm a teacher.
