City approves two large road projects
Salina city commissioners voted unanimously Monday to spend up to $444,943.13 to do work on the intersection of Crawford and Ohio streets.
Commissioners awarded the contract for the project to Pavers Inc., of Salina, for $426,943.13. The city received three bids for the project, all of which were under the city's estimate of $520,907.50.
Since the intersection of the Crawford and Ohio streets is the busiest in the city, city staff offered each of the companies a bonus of up to $1,200 a day, for a maximum of 15 days, to complete the project early.
The commission also approved paying Smoky Hill, LLC, $2,745,579.85 to improve East Magnolia Road from Ohio Street to the soccer complex.
Included in the project is a raised median with turning lanes, underground storm sewers, lighting, a five-foot-wide walking path on the north side of Magnolia, and a 10-foot-wide bicycle and walking path on the south side of Magnolia.
Construction is expected to start in 2013.
