Commission buys asphalt to cut down on dust
Salina city commissioners Monday agreed to pay Alsop Sand, of Concordia, $36,800 for asphalt millings to use on unpaved roads.
The city currently maintains nine miles of unpaved roads. City staff hope the asphalt millings will cut down on dust created by traffic.
The millings will be used on Woodland and Prospect avenues, east of Ohio Street to the city limits, and West Grand Avenue from the flood control levee to Ninth Street.
Salina contractors APAC-Kansas and Ballou Pavement Solutions also bid on the project.
Commissioners also approved a contract with Aquaterra Environmental Solutions for $51,489 to provide engineering work at the Salina landfill.
Aquaterra will provide required reports to the Environmental Protection Agency and Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Aquaterra has performed the work in the city since July 2008.
