nFirst Church of the Nazarene's Praise in the Park is set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Eric Stein Stage in Oakdale Park.

The event includes free food and music.

nEmmanuel Christian Center will have its 18th annual Freedom Celebration on Sunday to honor all veterans and widows of veterans. A free barbecue meal will be at 5:30 p.m., to be followed by a patriotic service at 6:30 p.m. A drawing will be held for prizes. There will be a mounted cavalry color guard from Fort Riley. For more information, call 825-1943.

n Summer day camp at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through July 24.

The camp is entitled MADD, which stands for music, art, dance and drama.

There is no charge for the camp and registration forms are available at the church. The church phone number is 827-7082.

nTrinity Lutheran Church youth group plans a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon, July 11, in the church parking lot, Ninth and Crawford.

Cost is a freewill donation. Proceeds from the car wash will go to Christian youth camps and gatherings.

n A reception at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ninth and Crawford, is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. July 11 as part of the church's continuing 75th anniversary celebration.

The congregation, former members and friends can visit with three of Trinity Lutheran's former pastors and their wives.

Those pastors are Dan Schmalz, who served the church from 1980 to 1988, and his wife, Connie; Martin Mappes, 1960-72 and his wife, Doris; and Wendell Haubein, 1985-96, and his wife, Dianne.

Schmalz will preach at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services July 12. A potluck dinner will be served at noon.

n Vacation Bible School at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, Eighth and Grand, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. July 13 to 17.

Registration is under way for Camp EDGE (Experience, Discover, God, Everywhere) for children ages 3 to 11.

Children will learn new songs, hear Bible stories, play games, make crafts and enjoy snacks. Call the church at 823-6272 for more information or to register your child.

n The Mariner Fleet Ice Cream Social will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 18 at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 825 E. Beloit.

Ice cream (sugar-free available), cake, coffee and iced tea will be served for a $3.50 donation. Carry-out is available.
