Church notes

n SYLVAN GROVE -- Pancake Day is 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sylvan Grove.

The menu includes pancakes, whole hog sausage, eggs and homemade pies. Donations will be accepted.

n The Lutheran Layman's League 57th annual Ground Hog Feed will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ninth and Crawford streets.

Pancakes and sausage will be served. Tickets are $4 in advance or $4.50 at the door. They are available from any League member. Additional sausage patties are 50 cents.

Proceeds go to the League's district projects. For more information, call the church office, 823-7151.

nA nondenominational group associated with Stonecroft Ministries and the Salina Christian Women's Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday to pray for our nation, families and local groups.

The session, to be held in the Salina Public Library Tech Room, is open to all women. For more information, call 826-9090.

n Eleanor Danielson Anderson, of Lindsborg, is the featured speaker for the Valentine Banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. Seventh.

Anderson will speak about the book "Miracle at Sea," which was inspired by the sinking of the ship ZamZam that she was on in 1941 and the rescue of her family.

The cost is $7.50 a person, and prepayment is required. To make a reservation, call the church office, 825-4750, by 4 p.m. Monday.

nFellowship Baptist Church plans a Date Night for married and engaged couples at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the church, 11th and Prescott streets.

The movie "Fireproof," which is rated PG, will be shown. There is no charge for the movie, but the One Way Youth Ministry will provide a concession stand and child care as a fundraiser.

n The Staccato Notes Federated Music Club of Salina plans a concert of Felix Mendelssohn's music, commemorating his 200th birthday, at 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe.

Club members will perform vocal, piano and violin selections. Assisting in the program are Tracy Dilling and Brian Pinkall, tenors, and Harry Huber, organ.

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception follows.

n CULVER -- A Sweetheart Spaghetti Dinner is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Culver United Methodist Church, prepared by the Methodist Men. A bake sale is included.

The cost is a donation. For information, call 823-4739.

n Wadi Walkers, a music ministry team from Central Christian College in McPherson, will present a program at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 304 W. Grand.

The program and music is based on Scripture. The music has a distinct Jewish flavor, with many minor harmonies and a driving rhythm, complete with a shofar, tambourines and other instruments. The program is presented in front of a large backdrop showing the city of Jerusalem in the distance.

The team is comprised of eight students: Ben Jones, of San Jose, Calif.; Ruth Parry, of Osaka, Japan; Justin Powers, of Wilson; Tim Schiro, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Lindsey Shaw, of McPherson; Jamie Taylor, of Topeka; Kelley Watson, of Kingwood, Texas; and Amanda Wright, of Dodge City.

n All women are invited to attend "Songs from the Heart," the Salina Christian Women's Club luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Salina Country Club.

Speaker Valerie Barkley, of Topeka, will speak about "Cycles of Life." Recording artist Barbara Hartley, of Herington, will be guest vocalist.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling 643-1944. Complimentary child care is available and should be requested when reservations are made.

n A live seminar via satellite, "Focus on Marriage," will be simulcast from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 at First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia.

The seminar is designed to help people see their marriages "through the eyes of God," according to a news release, resulting in "deepened feelings, improved communication and a dynamic change in day-to-day interactions."

The cost is $69 for couples and $40 for individuals. The rate for military persons is $29.50 a couple or $17.50 for individuals.
