Salinan arrested after short chase

10/15/2009

A three-minute chase, followed by a brief manhunt with a police dog, led to the arrest of Ronnie Hall, 29, 837 E. Cloud, in connection with the Monday or Tuesday theft of a pickup truck from west Salina.
Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said a deputy encountered the pickup about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, being driven north on Ohio Street, about a mile north of Pacific Street. The driver made a U-turn and headed back to Salina. The deputy gave chase, then Salina police officers got involved.
Kochanowski said the pickup hit a guardrail — Deputy Salina Police Chief Carson Mansfield said it was at Front and Ash streets. Mansfield said Hall left the pickup and entered the old Smoky Hill River channel, about two blocks north of the Dillon’s grocery store at 511 E. Iron.
Officers used a trained dog to search for Hall and apprehended him in the channel at 8:46 p.m., Kochanowski said.
