Charges have been dropped in Saline County District Court against a New Cambria man who originally was accused in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend, but a spokesman with the Kansas Attorney General’s Office indicated he is expected to face federal charges.
Steven Edward Charles Couch Jr., 41, no longer faces a charge of criminal threat and one count of possession of marijuana stemming from acts on Feb. 17, 2011, the night Carol Sue Williams, 39, died.
However, Jeff Wagaman, spokesman for the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, said in an email to the Journal Tuesday that Couch still may face charges.
"The Kansas Attorney General’s Office agreed to dismiss charges pending against Mr. Couch in Saline County District Court in order for prosecution to proceed against Mr. Couch in Federal Court," Wagaman wrote.
