A Salina man who was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he was caught on camera illegally dumping trash in the county had suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his pocket and an unsecured child in his back seat, said Capt. Brian Shea of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
Edward D. Gray, 43, 701 State, is accused of possessing illegal drugs, including meth and herbal potpourri, not having a child passenger secured, driving with a suspended driver’s license, no proof of insurance and littering on private property.
He also is accused of two counts of possessing stolen property because the license plate on the pickup truck he was driving had been reported stolen, as well as the truck itself, Shea said.
Shea said the sheriff’s office mounted a motion-activated camera in an area near the bridge on East North Street where there has been a chronic problem with illegal dumping. The camera captured an image of the man and the truck.
Deputies tried to track the man down using the license plate number, but it had been reported stolen. A deputy later saw the truck on a city street, pulled it over and arrested Gray.
Shea said the motion-activated cameras frequently are used by the sheriff’s office in remote areas where burglary or littering becomes a problem.
